“Dr. Tarece Johnson-Morgan is an exceptional person and leader. “Dr. Tarece,” as she is affectionately known, is an individual who has a genuine desire to improve educational conditions while encouraging and inspiring adults and children to grow personally. Many in leadership have shown support for educators and students currently and in the past and then succumbed to the status quo of politicking and securing self interests. Dr. Tarece is not one of those leaders. She has maintained a consistent attitude and pursuit of doing what is right and holding those at the decision-making table accountable for their actions and responsibilities. Dr. Tarece does not flinch when critical conversations with District leaders need to be had, especially when determining how to provide equitable resources for the Gwinnett County School District. 

​Dr. Tarece may sit on the GCPS Board but she is constantly moving; meeting with bus drivers, clerks, special education and multilingual learner educators, and community students and parents. She not only listens to the voices she represents, she hears them and takes action to address their concerns and provide what is needed. She also educates those who are unaware of policies and procedures that may seem questionable or unfair. She ensures that there is open communication on how all educational stakeholders; families and district leaders, can contribute and take their role to create a successful educational system.  

Personally, I have had the privilege of serving the community with Dr. Tarece by engaging in round table discussions with students and parents within our Berkmar Cluster. The students in our Junior Culture and Climate Council (JC3) at Sweetwater Middle School and students from Berkmar High School were seeking to make positive changes to their learning environment and Dr. Tarece encouraged them to use their voices. During their time together, Dr. Tarece has inadvertently mentored these students to become strong advocates for their peers and educators. She has enlarged their worldview and taught them to analyze situations from various perspectives, identify the key issues of concerns, and plan their course of action for implementation, with self-confidence and self assuredness. 

Dr. Tarece’s approachable demeanor and empathetic nature inspires and motivates others and she exhibits exceptional integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence. She carries out her duties as a Board member using sound judgment and a strategic mindset  . Dr. Tarece Johnson-Morgan consistently displays a strong work ethic, adaptability, and a willingness to go above and beyond to ensure success for educators and families. Her passion for advocacy and authenticity are the essentials needed in a Gwinnett County Public School Board member.“
